Abstract

The article examines the reconstruction and analysis of the events and processes that shaped the development of contemporary fine art in the Omsk region during the 1980s. Drawing on materials from the Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts named after M. A. Vrubel and archives of informal groups, the article analyzes the complex structure of artistic life in Omsk during this period. During this time, two parallel trends developed in the region: late Soviet “official” non-conformism among artists of the 1960s and the radical practices of a new generation. Particular attention is paid to the activity of the Experimental Art Association (ECHO), which initiated the process of democratizing creativity and mastered the language of abstract expressionism under the conditions of perestroika. It is concluded that the art of Omsk in the 1980s constitutes an original layer in national culture, whose environment generated original ideas that would shape the regional artistic scene in subsequent decades
