- Abstract
The reactions of Ni(II) with halogenated azomercaptophenols {1-(5-Chloro- or 5-Bromo-2- Pyridylazo)-2-Hydroxy-4-Mercaptophenol} and 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Neocuproine) were studied by the extraction–photometric method. After a single extraction with chloroform at an aqueous- to-organic phase ratio of 4:1, 98.4–98.7 % of nickel is extracted in the form of a mixed-ligand complex. The optimum acidity range is pH 4.8–6.5, and the absorption maxima are observed at 582 and 596 nm, with molar absorption coefficients ε = (3.3–3.5)×10⁴. The Beer law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0.18–22 μg mL⁻¹ Ni(II). The developed extraction-photometric method was used to determine nickel in wastewater, oil samples and oil products
