Abstract

The structural inhomogeneity of ferromagnetic materials on the nanometer scale plays a key role in the formation of excellent soft magnetic properties of nanocrystalline and amorphous alloys. The paper provides a brief overview of the main ideas behind the law of approach to magnetic saturation, which provides the basis for a method to study such inhomogeneities. Special attention is paid to the role of the works of the Krasnoyarsk school of magnetism researchers working in this direction: from the classic works of Kirensky and Ignatchenko to modern discoveries related to experimental studies of nanomaterials. The methodological options that open up to an experimentalist when studying the law of approach to saturation are discussed
