Abstract

This article presents the results of a scientific cultural study of medicinal plants as a cultural universal. The isolation of medicinal plants from the plant kingdom and their use in cultural practices is a cultural universal and has been observed throughout the history of culture among virtually all ethnic groups. Medicinal plants as a concept are the subject of research in social and cultural anthropology, the theory and history of culture, and ethnology. Based on theoretical and historical analysis, the following definition of this concept is proposed. Medicinal plants are a cultural concept denoting a set of plants used in medical cultural practices and serving as a form of traditional medical knowledge, including treatment standards for cultural groups, communities, and individuals. These treatment standards serve as a form of manifestation of the unique cultural practices of these cultural groups, communities, and individuals and serve as a marker distinguishing them from other cultural groups, communities, and individuals
