- Abstract
The article presents a comparative analysis of state pharmacopoeias in China, Russia, and Canada, as well as related sources, based on publicly available information. The aim of the study is to assess the representation of ethnic medical knowledge in these pharmacopoeias using the example of knowledge related to indigenous peoples in the North, Siberia, and the Far East. The study found that there are three main approaches to the interaction between national pharmacopeial standards and traditional medicine: the “deliberate exclusion” approach, where ethnomedical practices are documented outside the official pharmacopeia but receive government support (as in Canada); the “partial representation” approach, which includes traditional medicine that has been proven effective through evidence-based methods (as in Russia); and the “integration” approach, where traditional medicine is fully integrated into the pharmacopeia (not mentioned in this study).; And the “systematic integration with cultural labelling” – the incorporation of ethnomedical knowledge and its validation in the terminology of the original tradition (in China). The findings obtained make it possible to classify the approaches of various countries to integrating ethnomedicine into governmental standards for medicinal products
