Abstract

This article analyzes the work of Nenets artist Konstantin Pankov, considered one of the founders of “northern fine art.” This study provides a general overview of the artist’s work and outlines the main approaches to training indigenous artists at the Institute of Northern Peoples. A philosophical and art historical analysis of K. A. Pankov’s “Hunt” (1930s) is conducted to determine the specifics of the artist’s visualized worldview and identify key elements reflecting the artist’s worldview, a representative of the Samoyedic ethnic group. Key visual images in Pankov’s works are identified and analyzed, including rivers, sky, trees, birds, deer, dogs, a person engaged in hunting or fishing, as well as various elements of the material world of an indigenous northern person
