- Abstract
The study highlights the period of collectivization and the development of collective farms in the reindeer husbandry sector of the northern Selkups. The article examines how the reforms of the first years of Soviet power began, and how they penetrated into the traditional Selkup reindeer husbandry. The method of reindeer husbandry developed by scientists of that time, which formed the basis of transformations in the reindeer husbandry sphere, is described. The use of the new method allowed Selkup state farms to become owners of large reindeer herds of one and a half to two thousand heads each, and also created the phenomenon of Selkup state farm reindeer husbandry: a “collision” when large reindeer herds of state farms were grazed in atypical climatic zones of the taiga and forest tundra by shepherds of a people whose traditions did not include large-scale reindeer husbandry. The successful increase in the number of deer on Selkup state farms due to natural growth, which reached its peak in the 1970s and 1980s, proved the effectiveness of the new method and at the same time confirmed the expediency of collectivization, despite all its contradictions
