Abstract

This article examines the philosophical and worldview foundations of G. S. Pomerants’ religious conception of culture. The aim of this study is to identify the key ideas that shape his understanding of culture, religion and spiritual experience. The methodological basis consists of a cultural studies analysis of G. S. Pomerants’ published works and the method of the cultural-philosophical tradition, which have made it possible to reconstruct the philosophical and worldview foundations of his religious concept of culture and to identify its main semantic dominants. It has been established that the central elements of his concept are the experience of the abyss as an extreme existential experience, contemplation as a means of spiritual comprehension of reality, and the idea of the universality of mystical experience, which lies beyond confessional differences. It is shown that the thinker conceives of culture as a form of containing the infinite, and religion as a system for transmitting socially significant mystical experience through symbols, rituals and institutions. It is concluded that G. S. Pomerants’ concept reveals culture as a space for the spiritual transformation of the individual and for interreligious dialogue
