Abstract

The article examines the forms and channels of international book exchange employed by archaeologists of the Yenisei region in the 1920s‑1930s to overcome the shortage of specialized foreign literature. Drawing on unpublished archival materials from the State Archive of Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Research Archive of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the study reconstructs two parallel channels of communication: the centralized institutional channel (operating through the All‑Union Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Bureau of International Book Exchange) and the personal scholarly contacts maintained by provincial researchers with their European and American colleagues. The author concludes that private initiatives – above all those of N. K. Auerbach – often proved more productive and enabled the integration of Siberian materials into the international scholarly sphere. However, these connections were curtailed in the early 1930s as a consequence of the ideologization of Soviet science
