Abstract

The article discusses approaches to studying the technology, style, and semantics of Andronovo decoration. It has been established that the technology of ornamentation is poorly understood. Scientists have focused on the general features of the ornamentation prints, which are used to identify its type and methods of application, but not on its morphological parameters or specific features of decoration. Consequently, the most promising approach is to search for identical tools and vessels created by the same master. For example, the focus has been on the style of the decoration. I. V. Rudkovski and I. V. Kovtun proposed the most detailed schemes for analyzing ornaments. As a result of their work, they were able to systematize the structural components of ornaments: elements, motifs (borders), compositions, types of continuums, symmetries, and others. The works of V. A. Borisov, D. S. Leontyeva, and other authors have confirmed the effectiveness of statistical methods in studying the ornamentation of Andronovo ceramics. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive research on this topic
