- Abstract
This study is devoted to a comprehensive paleoecological investigation of the Late Holocene fire history, using the Bolshoye Spoloshinskoye mire in the southern taiga of Central Siberia as a case study. Due to its intracontinental position, the region is characterized by harsh climatic conditions and high rates of modern warming. The southern taiga of the Middle Yenisei served as an interaction zone for ancient populations from forest, forest- steppe, and steppe areas, situated at the intersection of three cultural-archaeological regions: Southern Siberia, Western Siberia, and Eastern Siberia. Based on paleoanthracological, pollen, and botanical analyses of peat, combined with archaeological data, we reconstructed vegetation dynamics and the fire history over the last 5500 years. Periods of increased fire activity were identified: 5100–4900, 4400–3700, 3200–2800, 2200–1200 cal yr BP, and the last 500 years. The highest macroscopic charcoal accumulation rate (>20 particles/ cm²/year) was recorded around 1400–1200 cal yr BP
