- Abstract
This article examines the role of Buddhist elements in the poetics of Vsevolod Ivanov’s novella “The Return of the Buddha” and Bolot Shiribazarov’s novel “The Precious One”. The aim of the study is to determine the role of Buddhist images, motifs, ritual objects and bearers of sacred knowledge in the plot and the formation of the value-based meaning of works created in different historical and literary eras. The research material is examined within the context of the Russian and Buryat literary traditions of addressing Buddhist themes. The methodology combines comparative- contrastive, structural, semantic and hermeneutic approaches. The analysis reveals that, in Ivanov’s work, Buddhist elements are linked to the trials faced by individuals amidst historical catastrophe, whereas in Shiribazarov’s work, they govern the logic of the protagonist’s spiritual maturation, return to ancestral memory, and overcoming of border identity
