Abstract

The work substantiates the importance and relevance of the problem of the sociocultural potential of a modern university, taking into account the priorities of Russian society development. It has been proven that the educational organization of higher education has sufficient potential (i.e. institutional, intellectual and material resources) to instill the healthy lifestyle habits and foster physical activities that are in demand among students. The authors focus on theoretical and practical approaches to understanding the concept “sociocultural potential of a modern university” in new realities. The researchers analyzed data from a survey of 116,298 respondents (92,204 students, 24,094 university staff), conducted under the program of regular sociological online student surveys on a research and communication platform “Caring Person” (https://we-joined.ru/) under the aegis of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the Ministry of Education of Russia, Tomsk State University and the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre. Six clusters were identified, showing respondents’ attitude towards healthy lifestyle, sports and physical education, incentives and barriers concerning doing sport, real and potential involvement in the sports and physical education at university
