- Abstract
Digital core modeling and microfluidic technologies are two complementary methodologies in modern oil and gas engineering. Digital core models are a powerful research tool that combines the methods of computed tomography, reconstruction of complex three-dimensional structures and hydrody- namic modeling of multiphase flows in these digital objects. The key challenge in this area is the problem of adequate validation of digital core models based on experimental data. This paper presents the results of testing a computational technique for modeling two-phase immiscible flows of nonlinear viscoplastic liquids in porous media. The mathematical model is based on the Navier-Stokes equations and the VOF liquid-in-cells method. Testing of the developed calculation technique was performed on the tasks of single-phase and two-phase flow during oil displacement with a polyacrylamide solution from an original microfluidic chip simulating a fractured reservoir. The simulation results are compared with the data from the microfluidic experiment and the results of calculations performed using the Ansys Fluent CFD code. As a result of the testing, a satisfactory agreement was demonstrated between the simulation results obtained using the developed numerical technique and the data from microfluidic experiments and calculations obtained using the Ansys Fluent solver
