Abstract

Acetophenone and its functionally substituted derivatives have long been recognized as effective antioxidants and have found widespread use in the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. These natural and synthetic compounds inhibit reactive oxygen species and prevent radical chain reactions, making them valuable in the aforementioned fields. In this study, we synthesized hydroxymethylcycloalkylacetophenones via the acylation of methylcycloalkylphenols with acetyl chloride in the presence of ZnCl2/γ-Al2O3 catalyst. We also investigated their antioxidant activity when added to diesel fuel. The experimental results demonstrated that the synthesized hydroxymethylcycloalkylacetophenones possess high antioxidant activity and can be recommended for use as diesel fuel antioxidants
