Abstract

The concept of “safety perimeter” by the French ethnographer and archaeologist A. Leroy-Gouran is considered. Its essence lies in understanding the process of production by people of different historical eras, cultures, ethnicities, settlements, buildings, interiors, household items, tools, and crafts. According to Leroy-Gouran, this complex is necessary primarily to create a special territory of safety: in economic, food, ethnic, mental, and other senses. People invent and use life-support technologies to increase the degree of ethnic comfort, to counteract not only the real danger posed by neighboring societies, representatives of the fauna, and natural elements, but also by supernatural forces and the masters of nature. t seems relevant to test Leroy-Gouran’s concept on specific ethnographic materials from the indigenous peoples of the Amur-Sakhalin region
