- Abstract
Water and steam addition technologies are one of the promising methods for solving the problems of reducing harmful emissions and increasing the efficiency of fuel use. The paper estimates the cost of reducing emissions and the cost of steam preparation for various technological schemes of its generation using the example of a burner device implementing atomization and combustion of fuel in a superheated steam jet, developed at the IT SB RAS. The use of this approach allows achieving a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 70 % and carbon monoxide emissions by up to 30 % relative to DIN EN 267 standards. Despite the costs of steam generation, this makes the use of this technology economically feasible when burning low-quality fuels (waste oil, crude oil) or fuels with unstable quality and composition, ensuring a reduction in the cost of thermal energy by 2–3 times compared to the combustion of diesel fuel in traditional burners while maintaining low emission levels.
