Abstract

This article examines precarious employment as a central focus of contemporary research on employment transformations, the gig economy, and platform capitalism. The theoretical basis of the study is an institutional approach that provides an understanding of the structure and forms of precarious employment through its institutional structure. Therefore, several aspects are identified when examining precarious employment: global- institutional, structural-functional, and status-role, related to the behavior of labor relations agents. As a result, numerous studies of labour market flexibility can be conceptually structured to identify the causes and consequences of precarious employment. The study concluded that the spread of precarious employment practices leads to a transformation of the institution of employment, which entails negative consequences for the quality of life, confirming the statement about the need for legal regulation of this issue
