Abstract

This article presents an integrative approach to the study of Russian literature in a creative dialogue with literary phenomena from various cultures and national traditions, which contributes to the development and enhancement of reading comprehension among upper secondary school pupils. Integrative forms, methods and teaching resources systematically help schoolchildren develop concepts with a high level of abstraction. They foster: a) understanding the devices of the text, its cultural foundations, and its biographical and historical-cultural contexts; b) guiding students towards higher levels of perception (from understanding to interpretation of a literary text; from interpretations to independently expressed reflection and the development of reading intuition); c) the integration of various concepts and individual stylistic approaches (hypertextual interactions between writers and their works). The results of the study allow us to conclude that students’ integrative activities, as a key component of the teaching methodology and as an effective way of organising the lessons of literature, contribute to a more lasting assimilation of the material, stimulate students’ literary development, and help form a holistic worldview in terms of culture, politics and social life
