Abstract: Issues of the legislative regulation of free legal aid provision in Russia at federal and regional levels are considered in the article. Particular trends are revealed within the regulation of issues of free legal aid provision in subjects of the Russian Federation. The conclusion was drawn up about a necessity of a detailed regulation in a subject’s laws, an inadmissibility of duplication of federal legislation and a possibility of a reference regulation if it is needed
