Abstract

The study is devoted to the history of the development of Abakan, Gorno-Altaisk and Kyzyl in the period from the post-war period to the present day. Being the capitals of the country national subjects, they had a number of specific functions that influenced the history of their development. In the scientific space of Siberia, the history of these settlements in the aspect of the formation of an industrial and urban society has not yet become the subject of study by historians. The analysis of the main stages of the development of capitals is given, common and special features in their development are identified based on the analysis of such indicators as the dynamics of the population of cities and its determining factors, the demographic and national composition of the population, the degree of improvement, socio-economic development. All these characteristics, along with the existing status of cultural, educational, scientific and political centers of national subjects, determine the prospects for the further development of these cities
