Abstract

Social rehabilitation and return to peaceful life of injured and wounded combatants is a form of implementation of public policy in many countries of the world. The study purpose was to evaluate the current evidence base on the effects of sport and physical activity on the well-being of combat veterans. To achieve this goal, an analysis of the literature of recent years on the social rehabilitation of wounded military personnel was carried out. It has been shown that the success of social rehabilitation depends on the launch time and duration of the program, taking into account the severity of the military personnel’s injury, the selection of a set of physical exercises and types of adaptive sports, the involvement of an interdisciplinary team of highly qualified specialists, and other conditions. It is concluded that the research has confirmed the value of both adaptive sports and physical activity in improving the psychosocial health and well-being of combat veterans with disabilities. The review adds to previous knowledge by highlighting the specific impact of sport and physical activity on the well-being of combat veterans following acquired disability and psychological trauma
