Abstract

This article deals with the representation of the cultural memory of the Krasnoyarsk region in the projects of the Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale held by the Cultural and Historical Centre (now “The Ploshchad Mira” Museum Center). The choice of the museum event in the consideration of commemorative practices is conditioned by the fact that, firstly, the functions of a museum are initially connected with the preservation of cultural heritage and its actualization through exhibition activities, and, secondly, by the fact that a modern museum not only preserves, but also constructs cultural memory in accordance with the context of time. Among the numerous exhibition projects of the Museum Centre, the Biennale is one of the most significant events in the cultural life of the regional center. Its realization is closely connected with the theme of the region’s cultural memory, research and comprehension of the past and its influence on the present. The 7th Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale “ Sign of Siberia”, which became a turning point in the approach to the organization of the event as a conceptually integral, artistic and research journey, was chosen as a material for the analysis of the representation of cultural memory in the museum. The biennale was considered on the example of several installations that vividly represent cultural memory: “Untitled” by M. A. Vogrinchich, collective “Soil Fence”, “Genealogy of Repressions” by B. Mamonov, “Map of Memory” by A. Krasulin. Addressing these works as milestones of the imaginary map of Siberia allowed us to identify a number of key aspects of the cultural memory of the Krasnoyarsk Krai residents, on which basis the local identity is built today
