Abstract

In the modern information society, the political sphere is closely intertwined with the media space, and therefore contact occurs not with political reality, but with its media representation. The objective reality of many political events and processes is most often inaccessible to people due to their actual distance from direct participation in them. In each state, news is interpreted depending on the position of political leaders. China is no exception; since the beginning of the special military operation, the Chinese media have also been actively presenting the events taking place, constructing its media image as an integral part of the media reality of the current political process. The purpose of the study was to identify the main topics to cover SMO, describing it in general Chinese government information publications; identifying the frequency distribution of concepts used to describe SMO in Chinese media, and the linguistic and communicative characteristics of constructing the media image of SMO in official Chinese media and messages on forums focused on this event and posted on popular Chinese web portals. The study of the media image of SMO in Chinese media is especially interesting in that Chinese media web portals, which allow discussions on published materials (in the form of messages on forums), are subject to little moderation by the administrations. The range of reports about this event in unofficial media provides rich empirical material to research
