Abstract

The Dagestanian languages reveal notable differences in terms of spatial structuring, not only between languages of different groups, but also within the same group. These differences are presented not only at the synchronic level, but also have a historical character, which makes the typological study of numerous spatial cases relevant. The typological study of nominative spatial systems is noticeably complicated by the problem caused by the absence of a unified terminology. Therefore, the aim of this article is to use a unified terminology to qualify locative cases and, using this terminology, to study the selectivity that the Dagestanian languages manifest in structuring space. The main source of data was grammatical descriptions of the Dagestanian languages. Some of the material was received by the authors from native speakers by the method of elicitation. The main method is a synchronic description of the spatial cases, the methods of field linguistics (to collect the material), the method of intragenetic typology (for a detailed description of the specifics of spatial structuring). The article uses a single terminological apparatus for all Dagestanian languages, allowing to make typological generalizations. The number of localizations ranges from eight to four. The most stable were the localizations: SUPER, SUB, INTER, IN, A(PU)D. The number of orientation cases is also decreasing. The forms of essives and latives coincide in a number of languages completely or in certain locatives. In all Dagestanian languages there is a tendency to displace latives and elatives with postpositional combinations. The obtained results indicate that the systems of spatial cases of the Dagestanian languages are in the process of disintegration, which is represented to varying degrees in different languages
