Abstract

The aim of the article is to describe the structure of the dominant categories of the linguomental subsphere and to categorize the linguocultures on its basis. The research is based of lexicographic and phraseological sources of the Russian, the Ukrainian and the English languages, electronic text corpora, as well as the results of the psycholinguistic experiment. The participants were 830 respondents (272 Russian speakers, 216 Ukrainian speakers, 168 British speakers and 174 American speakers). The analysis of the categorical structure of monopolar and bipolar dominants is presented on the example of the linguomental subsphere FAMILY. The monopolar categories with one dominant feature are universal and not linguoculturally orientated. The bipolar categories have two opposite dominant features indicating the tendencies of linguocultural development according to the opposite patterns. The statistically confirmed representation of the dominant feature is considered as an opportunity to classify linguoculture. The psycholinguistic experiment is an important tool for establishing the statistical relevance of dominant features to different linguocultural types. Based on the manifestation of dominant features, the categorization of linguocultures into traditionalist and neoliberal types with their national-cultural interpretation is proposed. The role of the categorical model of the linguomental subsphere FAMILY as a determining factor in the categorization of linguocultures is described
