- Abstract
The article analyzes the reasons for the emergence of poor areas on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar. Today, almost half of the country’s residents live in the capital of Mongolia. According to sociological studies by Mongolian scientists and statistical data over the past 20 years, migration from rural to urban areas is not decreasing and is contributing to increase poverty level in urban area. Desertification, livestock loss, lack of jobs, and lack of quality medical care in the countryside lead to increased migration from rural to urban ares. It leads to the formation of poor ger districts on the outskirts of the city, which has become one of the main social problems for the city administration and residents. Air pollution, lack of clean water, poor infrastructure, traffic congestion, poor housing conditions lead to the production of urban marginality and an increase in the group of poor people
