Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the borders impact on the development of suburbanization in Russia. The authors consider two categories of borders modern Russian suburbs are associated with. On the one hand, these are the borders set by the system of administrative-territorial division, transport infrastructure, and natural landscape. On the other hand, there are borders that arise due to the high degree of heterogeneity of the Russian suburbs and the close proximity of various forms of its organization in a common space. The authors conclude that a specific feature of the Russian suburb is the existence of suburban communities in a situation “in-between” of borders. This largely determines the consolidation of variability and heterogeneity of the Russian suburbs as one of its key characteristics
