Abstract

A theoretical model of media representation of social conflict is proposed for the discussion. At its centre is a media text surrounded by various “shells”, each of which has its own determinants, parameters and attributes that are in dialectical interaction. The conflict itself can be considered as a thematic “shell”; the media communication environment in which it is presented, as an organizational and environmental “shell”; the social space where the conflict exists and in the context of which its representation is created, as a generic (or generative) “shell”. When analysing media representation using this model, it is important to take into account the interactions of all its components – the core and the shells. It also provides a scheme for analysing the mutual influence of the parameters of various shells (fields) and allows us to predict the nature of media representations. Prospects for the development of the model lie in its transformation from qualitative to quantitative
