- Abstract
The article raises the issue of the specifics of studying intercultural interaction in the multi-ethnic communicative space of the Russian Federation. The authors discuss the possibilities of rethinking the classical theory of intercultural communication, modernizing the methodological tools for categorizing cultures on various grounds and adapting them to the conditions of the modern Russian multi-ethnic society. The article presents the fundamental works on the theory of intercultural communication and highlights the works showing the principles of parameterization and typology of cultures. The authors identify a number of factors that act as challenges for reconsidering the scientific and academic paradigm of intercultural communication and substantiate the need to update the parametric model for describing cultures, taking into account today’s socio-cultural realia
