Abstract

Soviet animation between 1924 and 1929 became an important part of the cultural landscape of the period, reflecting significant changes in the social and political life of the country. The aim of this article is to analyze animated films from this period using topic modeling to assess their alignment with key cultural narratives and ideological trends of the time. For this purpose, the journal “Sovetskoe iskusstvo” (Soviet Art), published between 1924 and 1928, was chosen as a source of cultural narratives. The selected films for analysis include “Samoyed Boy”, “Senka the African”, “Interplanetary Revolution”, “Soviet Toys”, “China in Flames”, “The Post”, “The Adventures of the Chinese Children”, and “The Ice Rink”. The study results demonstrate that these films reflect core ideological and cultural concepts promoted in the art and culture of the era, revealing the ways in which animation was used to visualize and communicate the values of the new Soviet society
