- Abstract
This article describes the history of the artistic association – the Association of Revolutionary Russia Artists (1922–1931). The authors of the study attempt to identify the reasons for the emergence of the “AKhRR”, to explain why artists of different skill levels and views joined this association. Based on the philosophical and art history analysis of graphic and pictorial works by artists created between 1917 and 1922, the artistic searches of the masters are shown, which is especially evident in the example of numerous self- portraits and portraits that express the drama of the historical era. Other genres in which artists worked are also considered, where a new method and canon for depicting a Soviet person, everyday life and significant events was sought
