- Abstract
Complex relationships between individual components of a social system require the formation of new languages for describing reality that take into account a whole range of influences and connections between actors. One of the significant concepts of this kind is the notion of a quasi-object generated by network relations or a complex of symbioses, depending on the theoretical basis in which this term is introduced. Considering Soviet encyclopedias on art as such quasi-objects, it is necessary to first determine the three most significant systems with which they interact. The first is the state apparatus, provoking the formation of a new type of printed publications. The second system is science, providing the encyclopedia with material that is systematized and transformed under the pressure of the specifics of the genre. The third system is society, which is the target reader of the encyclopedia. The nature of the relationship between these components allows us to assume that the encyclopedia begins to play the role of a mediator between science and society, whose role is to form a stable set of knowledge, which becomes the basis for constructing a network that supports further results of scientific research and determines its legitimacy and truth
