Abstract

The relevance of the study is associated with the high significance of encyclopedic publications on art for the development of visual thinking of a modern person in light of the visual turn that occurred at the end of the 20th century. The study revealed a high demand for encyclopedic publications on the art of individual regions. The main criteria for the typology of encyclopedias on art are given. A study of several specialized encyclopedias was conducted – encyclopedias of artistic movements (romanticism, impressionism, symbolism, surrealism, avant-garde, expressionism) and encyclopedias of painting, as a result of which the main principles of preparing printed encyclopedic publications today were identified
