- Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the experience of creating encyclopedias of contemporary art, necessary for the popularization and systematization of current artistic practices. In the conditions of digital technology development, the format of encyclopedic editions is changing, expanding their capabilities and functionality. The following world encyclopedic projects are analyzed: The Grove Encyclopedia of Art (Oxford Art Online), Larousse Dictionnaire de l’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Phaidon’s The Art Book, “Art & Ideas” series, MoMA Digital Archive and ArtFacts.Net. Approaches to the creation and structure of encyclopedias are explored, including chronological, thematic and biographical systematization of materials, as well as the use of modern digital technologies. modern encyclopedias are becoming flexible and adaptive tools that reflect the dynamics of the global artistic process
