- Abstract
The article deals with the topical problem of the implementation of religious motifs in painting and sculpture of the countries of Eastern and Western Europe. The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the expression of religious motifs in modern painting and sculpture. The objectives of the study are to consider the main approaches to the embodiment of religious themes in painting and sculpture; to identify regional features in the sculptural and pictorial implementation of religious motifs in the countries of Eastern and Cultural Arts. Western Europe. The research methodology is based on a systematic approach and includes a group of general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematization); as well as a number of special methods: historiographical analysis of scientific literature on the topic of the study; the method of expert assessments, the method of statistical analysis and verification of research results. The research materials were the answers of 60 experts in the field of contemporary painting and sculpture in the countries of Eastern (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic) and Western (Germany, France, Belgium) Europe. The representative sample was formed on a regional basis and consisted of 6 expert groups of 10 people from each country. Based on the research results, the author concluded that in the countries of Eastern Europe, subjects from the New Testament are especially widespread in sculpture and painting. Among them are the childhood and youth of Jesus Christ, images of the Virgin Mary with the Child, images of saints and martyrs. In Western Europe, evangelical stories based on Mark and Matthew are mainly realized
