Abstract

The article is a generalization of the field materials on means of transport collected by the author among the Evenks of the Khabarovsk Krai in 2015–2024. Means of transportation are an integral part of the way of life of the peoples of the North. They are especially important in remote areas with harsh landscape conditions and with the lack of developed infrastructure as well. Despite the emergence of high- tech machines, the indigenous peoples of the North also use traditional time-tested means of transportation. Despite the emergence of high-tech machines, the indigenous peoples of the North do not deny the use of traditional means of transportation, proven by time. Depending on geographical, climatic and historical conditions, the development of means of transportation has local peculiarities. For the inhabitants of the Okhotsk coast, pack saddles, riding saddles, sleds, boats and skis are indispensable for reindeer herding, hunting, fishing and sea fisheries. Okhotsk Evenks introduce new materials, master other technologies of mobility, combining them with traditional ones, adapting to the ongoing changes
