- Abstract
The article is devoted to the current problems of studying the transition period from the Neolithic to the Paleometal Epoch in the archaeology of Primorye. The primary focus is on debatable issues of periodization, cultural interpretation and cultural genesis of archaeological complexes grouped by researchers into the Margaritovskaya culture, the Phusunskaya group of the Lidovskaya culture or the Phusunskaya culture, dated to the end of the 3rd – middle of the 2nd millennium BCE. The problem of determining their stadial position (Early Paleometal, Final Neolithic, transitional period) is considered, based on differing viewpoints on determining the composition of complexes and assessing significant features (the presence of replicas of bronze artifacts, changes in pottery and lithic technologies). Questions regarding the origin of the Margaritovskaya/ Phusunskaya group are addressed, including hypotheses of autochthonous development and migration processes. The authors summarize the current state of research and identify key unresolved issues in the study of this period
