Abstract

The article introduces a collection of iron knives from the funds of the Yenisei Museum-Reserve named after A. I. Kytmanov, which published for the first time. The tools received by the museum in the 19th century; almost all of it were found in the Lower Angara region. The knives from the Yenisei Museum-Reserve are similar to the items from the burial complexes of the region, which made it possible to clarify their chronological affiliation. Five types of knives are distinguished; most of it have a ring-shaped pommel. Two items are dated to the Xiongnu period, and another one was used in the final centuries of the Early Iron Age. Most of the knives date back to the periods of the Middle Ages. The idea of making iron knives with a ring-shaped pommel penetrates the southern taiga of Yenisei Siberia in the Xiongnu period. It develops until the Late Middle Ages, which leads to appearance a unique form of the iron knives by the region’s folks. In the adjacent territories at this time such a tradition is unknown
