Abstract

This article describes a cryogenic method for converting aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) from a liquid to a solid state. The physicomechanical and rheological properties of cryogels are studied, and their melting point, elastic modulus, and relaxation time are determined for those formed in environments with different pH values. Field experiments are described in which cryogels were used to stabilize soil and improve the surrounding landscape. The use of slightly alkaline PVA solutions is recommended for stabilizing the surface layer of acidified soil by binding its fine particles into cryostructures
