- Abstract
A comparative analysis of the representation of medicinal plants in modern pharmacopoeias of various countries is conducted. The relevance of the study is driven by the global interest in phytotherapy and the need to integrate traditional herbal materials into the paradigm of evidence-based medicine. The aim is to identify common patterns and national specifics in the approaches to standardizing herbal drugs. The methodology is based on a qualitative-quantitative content analysis of monographs extracted from official pharmacopoeia publications. The State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation XV edition, The International Pharmacopoeia WHO, US Herbal Medicines Compendium, Chinese Pharmacopoeia, and Japanese Pharmacopoeia were analyzed. As a result, a significant discrepancy in the number of monographs was established: from 854 in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia to 5 in the International one. A clear regional specificity of the nomenclature, reflecting historical and cultural traditions and modern standardization requirements, was revealed. A group of universal plants with established pharmacological activity, present in several pharmacopoeias, was identified. It is concluded that modern pharmacopoeia policy represents a synthesis of historical and cultural heritage and scientific requirements for quality, safety, and efficacy
