- Abstract
The article examines the processes of origin and formation of core concepts of Russian culture, their embodiment in professional church art of the 10th–16th centuries. By core concepts the author understands creative ideas that have set the vectors of development of Russian culture for centuries. The presented study defines turning points in the history of the country, in which core concepts of the culture of the Late Middle Ages were created, strengthened or transformed. Then, significant historical figures and features of their actions in transmitting the creative ideas of the period under study are selected. Based on this, the specificity of reflection of core concepts of culture in literature, the most significant churches and hymnography of Russia in the 10th‑16th centuries are established. An approach was chosen that combines a cultural analysis of ancient texts and temple architecture, taking into account their art history aspects
