Abstract: The paper represents a review of remarkable development trends in automation of Russian oil and gas industry. Both technological and organizational processes are taken into consideration. The most of factors influencing informatization and automation are enumerated. One pays attention to certain examples of automation systems together with their hardware and software components. Some problems of management and staff during automation systems’ deployment are discussed. As a conclusion particular innovative procedures aimed to the development of informational and control systems in Russian oil and gas industry are proposed
