Abstract

The functional composition and thermal properties of suberin samples obtained by water-alkaline and alcohol-alkaline hydrolysis of outer birch-bark were studied. Treatment of outer birch-bark by water alkali partially hydrolysis the suberin component, while the hydrolysis by alcohol alkali leads to formation of suberinic acids mixture. It was suggested to use a suberin - based binding agent for preparation of quality and environmentally friendly wood plate materials and fuel briquettes. The possibility of obtaining the varnish and fire-proof compositions based on polycondensed suberin as film-forming substance was established.
