Abstract

Thermodynamics of reduction of nickel and cobalt from oxide and sulfide compounds is investigated in the temperature range of 298–1273 K by means of carbon- and sulfur-containing reducing agents. It was fixed, that elemental sulfur under high-temperature conditions (higher than 1000 K) acts as efficient reducing agent for nickel and cobalt in oxides. Application of electron-donor properties of sulfur, that nickel and iron oxides contain, with the purpose of nickel reduction from oxides, results in the formation of Ni3S2.In this work there has been investigated the capability of nickel and cobalt reduction from sulfide compounds by means of electron-donor properties of proper sulfide sulfur. The conditions of the process implementation have been developed.
