Abstract

Na/K-ATPase is a key enzyme supporting asymmetric distribution of Na and K ions on the outer cell membrane of animal tissues. In the review, current state of Na-pump function is discussed. The data are presented describing molecular properties and location of the enzyme molecule within the cell membrane. Evidence on oligomeric structure of Na/K-ATPase and regulation of the protomers within the complex by ATP are shown. New data illustrating participation of Na/K-pump in cell signaling are presented.
