Abstract

The influence of acid zeolite catalysts with different silicate modulus on the thermal conversion of aspen wood lignin and on the composition of obtained products was studied. It was found that at the process temperature 350 °C the degree of lignin conversion to liquid and gaseous products was increased by 20-30 % under the action of zeolite catalysts. The maximum conversion of lignin (71 wt. %) and the high yield of light fraction (<180 °C) of liquid products (44 wt. %) were observed in the presence of zeolite catalyst with Si/Al ratio 30. Phenolic part of liquid products obtained by lignin conversion at 400oC predominantly contains methoxy phenols and their methyl- and ethyl-derivatives. At temperature of lignin conversion at 400°C the catalysts decrease by 4-16 times the content of phenol and phenol derivatives in liquid products as compared to non-catalytic process.
