Abstract

The subject of the research is the formation of professional music education in the Yenisei province of the late XIX – early XX century. The purpose of the work is to consider the role of music education in the formation of a local system of academic traditions on the example of the largest Russian region. Based on a wide range of historical sources, including those introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the technologies for obtaining musical knowledge and skills of the imperial stage are highlighted and analyzed: the role of cultural and educational societies, private pedagogical practice, and the secondary secular school is indicated. Particular attention is paid to the creation in 1920 of the first permanent musical and educational institution on the Yenisei – the People’s Conservatory. Methodologically, the article is based on a historical approach. Among the leading methods are source study, descriptive and comparative historical methods. The comprehension of the discovered empirical material in the sociocultural aspect made it possible to obtain new results in the analysis of historical events. The article concludes about the importance of self-organizational processes in the development of musical education in the Yenisei province. Their action is reflected in the work of cultural and educational societies, the development of musical disciplines in the secondary secular school, and private teaching practice. The involvement of the anthropological approach in the study of local music reveals the role of the individual in shaping the musical life of the periphery, launching and coordinating self-organizational processes
