Abstract

The article is devoted to determining the role of the industrialist and patron of the arts Nikita Grigoryevich Stroganov (1560–1616) in the formation of the stylistic features of works of art. There is reason to believe that it was thanks to his tastes that the unique look of the entire Stroganov trend was formed and world-class masterpieces were created – miniature icons of the Stroganov style, similar to precious jewelry works of art. It was they who made up the golden fund of Russian icon painting of the last quarter of the 16th – early 17th centuries. The study aims to identify the features of the icons of the Annunciation Cathedral of Solvychegodsk in the context of the core concepts of Orthodox communion by Nikita Grigoryevich Stroganov reflected in them. Since this goal is set for the first time, the study characterizes these core concepts. The icon Liturgy: “Izhe kheruvimy” is analyzed as a representation of the Orthodox identity of its customer – Nikita Stroganov. Since the location of the icons in the temple reflected a complex multi-level system of worldview of the people of the period under study, the hierarchical structure of the identity of a medieval Russian person was identified and characterized in the iconostasis of the Annunciation Cathedral in Solvychegodsk using the example of N. G. Stroganov. Such core concepts as religiosity, holiness, bookishness, autocracy, family, etc. became the basis of his culture. He adopted the values of a family that excelled both in the commercial and industrial business and in maintaining the arts. Books were the basis of the Stroganovs’ worldview, conveying knowledge about the world, Holy Scripture attached to humanistic Christian values, Orthodox literature, the lives of locally revered saints conveyed the image of an educator and popularizer of culture, choosing a peaceful way of doing business. In addition to the general trends of the period under study, the individual features of Nikita Grigorievich were revealed, the influence of which led to the creation of unique masterpieces of Russian icon painting of the 16th‑17th centuries
