Abstract

Employment of graduates of university complexes in Russian regions is focused on solving complex tasks. The leading among them are: preserving human resources potential in the local labor market and curbing the outflow of young people from the subject of the country. The paper provides a comparative analysis of the labor strategies of young people in two regions: with positive (Krasnodar region) and negative (Omsk region) dynamics of internal migration. The empirical basis for the analysis was the results of the survey of the federal project “Runway for Young Professionals” 2023. As a result, three postgraduate labor strategies of young people were established: I – employment by profession, II – employment not by profession and III – combining training and work by profession. In the compared subjects, young people in the majority are oriented towards the speciality employment strategy. It was found that graduates from this group demonstrate more modest expectations regarding the size of wages than young people oriented towards strategies II and III. The comparison has shown that the possibility of professional growth is a more significant criterion for the future place of work for graduates of strategy I and III than strategy II. The analysis of responses confirmed the main hypothesis: the main ‘pushing out’ factor from the regions, regardless of the level of migration growth, is the lack of employment opportunities in the speciality and low wages. The obtained information is useful for adjusting postgraduate support programmes for graduates implemented in many university complexes in regions with different levels of internal migration dynamics. The results of the study also provide opportunities for labor market participants to critically approach the human resources policy of the organization in terms of interaction with regional universities, focusing on the incentives and barriers to finding a job that are characteristic of today’s youth
